ILLUSIONS by Elvira McKenna

5 out of 5 – A Gorgeously-executed Classic-style Romance – reviewed April 1 2026

Before i start I have to say that Romance has never been my favourite genre. So when I say that I thoroughly enjoyed Elvira McKenna’s debut novel it means that the novel is not your average offering in the romance sphere. It’s a gem.
It has all the panache of a classic black and white 1940’s movie: a sassy/sweet heroine, played off against a strong, silent, sensitive and gorgeous hero, whip-smart dialogue and an unabashedly psychotic villain. The suspenseful plot is competently handled, the timing is excellent and the look and feel of the physical product are spot-on. Great stuff, Elvira! I’m looking forward to the next book and the one after that.
