A Good Day’s Work – The Tulip Street Practice

The proofs arrived a couple of days ago for my new novel ‘A Good Day’s Work – The Tulip Street Practice’ and the reformatted ‘The Cottages at the Cape – Margie’s Summer Getaway’. It’s been sheer madness ever since.

The deadline for submitting corrections is midnight tonight and although I know I have to give it one more go, I need to take a break – lack of sleep and eyestrain are the least of my worries: I’m doing dumb shit. About an hour ago I downloaded ‘The Cottages..’ right over ‘A Good Day’s Work.’ Which, of course, necessitated another download of ‘A Good Day’s Work.’ over ‘The Cottages…’.

Which explains why I have to give it one more go before midnight. Because: was I truly successful in getting the right book back into the right slot? And what other thing, big or little, might have gotten away from me?

This whole indie-publisher/author thing is one long learning curve in a very public milieu. But that’s ok, perfection was never my strong suit, and I’ll own that with a smile any day.

The book, now, that’s something else. Not perfect either, but a whale of a roller-coaster ride. While Book One in The McCarthys trilogy, The Cottages at the Cape – Margie’s Summer Getaway, was slow-paced and kind of unfolded like a bit of a farce and a grand fuck-you from the universe at times, the second in the series, A Good Day’s Work – The Tulip Street Practice, has a storyline compressed into just a few days. It’s subject matter is harrowing, and the people involved, Margie and her family and their good friends are tested in ways that might be hard to imagine. But don’t fret. I imagined them for you.

Hang on. It’s going to be a wild ride.
